Zaga Sponsors Gaby Herrera - IronWOMAN

I know we get excited a LOT (and perhaps I need a thesaurus) BUT we are super thrilled to fill you in on our sponsorship of an incredible athlete competing in multiple Ironman races this year. Meet Gaby Herrera! Gaby is the fiancé of our beloved team member Fernando, who came to us with the idea of sponsoring her for all 4 (yes, FOUR) of the Ironman races in which she will be competing this year. Read on to learn a little more about our favorite IronWOMAN, and check back after this weekend to see how she did. Better yet, check out the link below for live updates for her race this Saturday 4/23!

“I have learned that any goal is achievable as long as you put in time and hard work.”

Nothing like a little cold water training!

Gaby Herrera

“I was born in Havana , Cuba and then immigrated to the United States at a very young age with my family. Throughout my high school and college years, I participated in different team sports including soccer, cross county, track + field and basketball. I primarily enjoyed the challenge and discipline that was required with each sport. In college I realized I had a passion for health and fitness, and decided to pursue a degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. After graduation, a friend of mine introduced me to a local sprint triathlon, and opened up a whole new world for me. After each subsequent race, I craved a bigger challenge and eventually built up the courage to enter my first full Ironman.

I have competed in half and full distance triathlons for 7 years. Every race has taught me many lessons, not only in sport, but also in life. I have learned that any goal is achievable as long as you put in time and hard work.

I am currently focused on performing at a more competitive level with the goal of qualifying for my professional card. This requires an average of 18-25 hours of training throughout the week , along with working a full time job. Racing, to me, is a celebration of all the training and effort that my team and I have done leading into a big event. It is an opportunity to learn how incredibly resilient the body and mind can be. I am extremely thankful to have the support of Zaga on this exciting journey.”

To date, Gaby has competed in 9 half-distance triathlons and 3 full distance, including the World Champion Race.

Gaby’s first race is this Saturday in The Woodlands, Texas, and Team Zaga will be rooting her on from here in Denver. Fernando is traveling with Gaby and their pup, Austin for the race, and will keep us up to speed (no pun intended) on her progress from Texas.

You can follow Gaby’s training journey via her Instagram handle @gabyherrera_1. In addition to working her full time job, 20+ hours of training a week, and competing in triathlons, she and Fernando are getting married in July, and we are so incredibly excited (uhp, there I go again) for them. What a year! Now perhaps we can share with them the wisdom of some good, old fashioned rest and relaxation. Though to be fair, Fernando is the one that taught us about Coffee Naps, and for that we are forever grateful.
